OPEN Architecture’s founding partners Li Hu and Huang Wenjing have been appointed Howard A. Friedman Visiting Professors in the Practice of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley. It is another major visiting professorship for them since 2023's appointment of Kenzo Tange Design Critics in Architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design.
The Howard A. Friedman Visiting Professorship in the Practice of Architecture honors alum as well as former chair and faculty member Howard A. Friedman, FAIA (1919–1988). It is intended to advance Friedman’s values and philosophy of humanistic architecture and enhance connections between the college and the profession. Notable past recipients of the professorship include Charles Correa, Michael Maltzan, Amale Andraos and Dan Wood, Frida Escobedo, Tatiana Bilbao, Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen, and Rossana Hu and Lyndon Neri, etc.
